Maple bars were always my favorite doughnut growing up. I loved them and I still do. These BAKED maple donuts are an easy treat to make. The texture is similar to a cupcake and the sweet maple icing is absolutely delicious.
Baked Maple Donuts
adapted from Cookies and Cups
Makes 6 donuts
1 1/2 cups minus 2 Tablespoons yellow cake mix
3/8 cup sour cream
1 egg
1 Tablespoon butter
Preheat oven to 425°F. Spray donut pan with cooking spray.
Beat all the ingredients together on medium speed for 30 seconds. Pour batter into a ziploc bag. Cut a corner from the bag and pipe into the donut pan. Bake for 7-9 minutes until the tops are lightly brown and spring back when touched. Cool 5 minutes in pan before removing.
Maple Icing
from Our Best Bites
1 3/4 to 2 cups powdered sugar
3/4 teaspoon light corn syrup
1/8 teaspoon salt
1/8 teaspoon vanilla
1/2 teaspoon maple extract
2-3 tablespoons hot water
Whisk together all the icing ingredients and spoon over cooled donuts.

oh they look good, I used to work in a donut shop and would put maple on anything, it was amazing on a chocolate donut! I have to try these.
